Snow, Rotary, Family
Well... Last week, Friday to be exact... It snowed in St.Marcellin, where I go to school, and just a bit in Teche! So, that was pretty exciting... I did quite a bit of frolicking in the snow and jumping around... unfortunately it didnt stick cause it had rained the day before, but it did stick up on the mountains across from our house so we have white mountains now... Saturday we had a rotary thing in Romans and I had to ride there alone with some random rotary guy and when he figured out that I spoke english he decided that we needed to speak english so he could practice... i didnt really understand anything that he said... he needs more practice than just that car ride! The meeting hall was the tackiest thing you have ever seen with metallic pink drapes and leopard carpet... I still havent figured out what this practical use for a room decorated like that is! Perhaps a limited too birthday or something.. im imagining a lot of 4th graders and body glitter! So, the thing was long, and we always find ourselves sitting doing nothing while the rotarians have meetings... so we did a lot of nothing, had lunch, set up these tables for our countries that we visited, I made origami with Shiori and then had to help man the states table for the rotarians to come and ask like fifty of the same questions over and over! Where are you from? North Carolina... Oh Ive never heard of that... all i know is new york and san francisco... that you for asking anyways i guess! Then they took us to a shoe museam which was a little strange... they had old shoes, new shoes, shoes worn by celebrities, shoe horns, big shoes, little shoes, ornate shoes, plain shoes, metal shoes, wooden shoes, bejewled shoes, fur shoes, shoes from Africa, shoes from Asia, shoes from Europe, shoes from the Americas, shoes of kings, shoes of queens, shoes of princesses, and shoes that were impossibly to walk in..... unfortunately there were no figure skates... but there was a lot of shoes... it was strangley a bit interesting for the first ten minutes, but after that... id seen all the shoes that ive ever desired seeing in my life... i prefer them on the rack at the shoe store, preferably on sale... afterwards, hannah and i got left by the rotary club of saint marcellin, thanks guys, and they returned about ten minutes later to come get us, tried to play it cool... That evening... which was excellent... there was figure skating on TV the trophee eric bompard... my first time watching figure skating with french commentators... i never thought id say this but its really not the same without uncle dick and aunt peggy there to commentate... and where was peter when you needed the interview?? That night we ate birds eggs which was a little strange... but they were actually good.. and they were speckled! We had this apparatus on the table with these mini frying pans that you stuck into it and it cooked the eggs! Oh yeah, and we had family over for the weekend... sylvies sister and her husband so thats why we had a special meal... perhaps that counts as my thanksgiving? And yesterday we went on a promenage through the mountains so pretty all the trees covered in snow and the rocks and houses covered in ice cicles... Im glad ive finally found the places that they modele those miniature hallmark christmas villages after! We stopped at a little place where kids were sledding and had a snowball fight... lets just say my aim was a bit off... and i ended up getting nailed a couple of times with only attmpts at useless backfire! We also went to a ski slope which is currently closed or at least the chair lifts are... but there were people with there own skis and snowboards going up on foot and skiing down... There was ice and snow all over the road... im not sure how we made it in that WV but it seemed to be nothing to them jsut to drive fast in the snow/ice covered roads... the people of wnc are definatley woosies when it comes to driving in the snow... we dont have mountains this high.. and we dont have snow this deep... or thick layers of ice covering the road... so i will supply some pictures from this week end on the next post...
